I haven't had this same expression since I've seen The Dark Knight in theaters. This movie completely blew me away, unlike any of the previous Harry Potter movies before. The acting is really improved by the lead actors (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint), with their efforts shown in their performances on screen. As for the plot, I really like it. Sure, it's dark in tone, and from almost every reviewer's complaint said that they missed the lighter tone in the earlier movies; like asking, "Whatever happened to that?" Well I do understand their opinion, but at the same time I could elaborate why this was in a darker tone than it was in the previous films. You see, as the stories progressed, the characters change, and when the characters change, so does the plot. Not everything can have that good feeling, that you get from a story where the hero saves the damsel and they both kiss at the end. That has nothing to do with this movie, but you get the point.
Anyways, that's not how a good story works, although it can, but in this case that's not going to work. I feel that since Voldemort came into the picture, the story will progress into the dark and serious tone, so we can get that emotional reaction that our lead hero might not make it out alive, and probably for the rest of the characters might not make it to the end either. See, those movies where it was a lot lighter in tone didn't have Voldemort, but the films after those were leading to his return, and to the point where he tries to take over the Wizard world, and the Muggle world. And that's where this story takes place. Just because the stakes are higher this time, that means this story will be taken in a serious way.
Does a darker tone make a great movie? Depends, but in this case it works perfectly. It doesn't need to be lighter for everyone's pleasure. There's humor here and there, so I guess there are some "light" to it.
So whatever happened to the lighter tone? Well, someone told me this in their own way. She said that when she read the books at a young age, and the newest ones at an older age, she felt like the books grew up, like a normal person does. You start out immature as a kid, and once you get older you become more mature. That's what the books felt like to her, and since I never read those books, I still agree what she had said. It's the same way with the movies, where I first watched them as a young kid, and now since I am an adult I felt like these movies are more for my age now, than they were 10 years ago. But why does it have to be dark? Again, Voldemort is in the picture, but since I'm still taking my time explaining, and probably you got the point by now, so let's move on.
I really like this movie. I love the atomsphere it brought to the dark tone, and it made it very enjoyable for me to watch. I felt for the characters, and their emotions, and all the conflicts that got in their way were great in tone. It was such an epic and well done movie. It did drag a bit in the middle, but once the action starts to kick in you'll have fun. And trust me, I think you will. I think HP fans can agree with me, or maybe not, but I am just going on with what I think about this movie. Even though there's a few flaws, and the slow paces in the film, I still love this film, and I can't wait to see part 2. Hopefully everything works out for the best of our hero at the end, or if the title means anything, it could be the end for him. Little spoiler alert, a lot of characters died in this movie, but I will not name those characters right now, for which you need to see for yourself. Great movie, great cast, and a wonderful director. Let's hope to see the best finale ever! By the way, the cliffhanger in the end of this movie left me speechless, and wanting more. I hope it leaves the same impression on you. 'Nuff Said.
