68 Movie Reviews
While I did enjoyed this, I was also disappointed with it, but let's keep that for later in this review. So let's start off the stuff I like about this movie. First of all, I like how they made a lot of cool action scenes with Optimus Prime. He is (like all of us) my favorite character, and probably the only one I support through out this film. Second, Sam Witwicky was OK, but what I like about him this time around is that he took some risks to become a better leader. But I am still disappointed that he hasn't gotten his nickname yet (the one from the original TV show that I can't mention in this review because it's somehow censored...jeez). But it's okay, I can deal with that. Third, what I also like is how the relationship of Megatron and Starscream was developed more and shown more, which was disappointingly missing in the first. Well, I felt people who are new to this has to see their relationship in these movies. Megatron hates Starscream, and Starscream hates Megatron. I also noticed that Megatron's voice this time around sounds more like Hugo Weaving now, then in the first movie. I wouldn't be surprised if he said, "Mr. Witwicky...so nice to see you." (lol) Also, Starscream's voice is much more different then the first movie. Sounds more like the original voice from the cartoons. That's a good thing. Fourth, the plot. I know a lot of people were complaining of how much the plot screwed up the Transformers universe, but it works here. And I like it. Sure it needed to be fleshed out more, but we can't get what we always want, right? That's just too much stress for Mr. Bay (Michael Bay, the director). But we just have to see that this is a reimagining version of the G1 series, and in any way it's not destroying the Transformers mythos or the source material, but recreating what made it so good in the first place. Fifth, 4 words: A LOT OF ACTION. The action was way and far more better then the first. The special effects were amazing. The cinematography was very well done. And Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime...like Optimus Prime said himself, "There can only be one." (lol, I think he said that before, oh whatever)
So now what I don't like about this movie. Well my disappoint is almost the same with my dad's opinion. He didn't like how Soundwave, Jetfire, and Devastator. Neither did I. But that's not the only thing I was disappointed. First, the plot. Yeah I said it was good for the movie, but it wasn't the greatest. Too many characters, too many new ones, and none of them were really developed right or had enough screentime. Surprisingly, unlike the first, there are more scenes of the Decepticons then there is of the Autobots. Kind of weird isn't it? It's like the first movie is all about the humans and Autobots, and now it's about the humans running away from the Decepticons. Well it's understandable, the X-Men franchise has so many characters as well. It's kind of hard to keep up with all of them. Now I can only imagin how the writers felt when doing those movies, it must've been really hard. Second, the reason why my dad and I were disappointed on those three characters mentioned above was because none of those characters were made correctly like they were from the show. Jetfire was never old, and Devastator was nothing like what he is in the movie. Also Soundwave is not a satelite-looking either, although I like that concept and sort of don't. Yeah it's confusing (lol). Third, the Fallen was probably the most awesome villain in this movie, but he wasn't in it as much. He was just there, and then wasn't there the next. He was so undeveloped and the final fight scene could've been much longer. You would think that how much action scenes were in this movie that the final fight would be long as well, but no they had to cut it short. Although Optimus Prime kicked major @$$ in this film, but he was probably in it more then the rest of the robots in this film. And somehow Megatron became weaker in this movie then he was in the first. I don't know if I am the only one who noticed this, but I guess I am, but who knows? The reason why I point this out is because Megatron in the show is the most powerful Decepticon ever, and much more powerful then Optimus. But still, it wasn't noticable so it doesn't matter as much. Fourth, the actors *sighs*. Well Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox mostly. Just for some reason they weren't really convincing enough, but they're not bad, but they're certainly not the greatest actors ever. Shia acted more like Indiana Jones in this film, then Sam Witwicky. And Megan....well she's just there...so yeah. Fifth, some of the new characters names weren't mentioned at all. So at first I had no clue who were some of the new-added characters are in this movie until I went home and searched on the web. Ridculous. I mean they could've at least had an introduction similar to the one where the Autobots were introducing themselves to Sam and Mickaela in the first movie. There could be a scene where Megatron accounces some of the names of the new Decepticons while recruiting...or something! Jeez, this is just so lazy of Michael Bay to do. And I never really liked him in the first place.
Over all, I enjoyed this movie, and so did my girlfriend. I don't know it's the greatest Transformers movie ever, since I still think the original animated movie was the best, like nothing can ever topped that one. But this movie has it's moments and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a lot of action movies, and great special effects. Because, really, that's what this movie is all about.
And most definitely, this one was much better then the first movie. Lets see if Transformers 3 can top this one (hopefully with a better plot, well-developed characters, and hopefully the actors can do better too, and also more action scenes too!).
