D-9 was a great movie. The story plot was realistic in the fact that a weapons company would mistreat aliens just to get their weapons. Even the war/police action was realistic. this movie reminds of Halo and Call of Duty. The movie explains how wars now a days are stated by greed. Bush went to Iraq to get oil not to help the civilians in iraq. In this film MNU wanted the alien weapons and a way to use it and sell it. It was a great movie.

I never realized how much I actually care for aliens.

When aliens land on Earth, global business conglomerate Multi-National United forces them into rigid containment zones where they are compelled to labor, even as MNU commandeers their other worldly technology for profit. As tensions build between human and non-humanraces, a rogue agent leads a resistance movement against MNU's ruthless consolidation of power.

The first thing I noticed about this film is its style. It uses a lot of documentary-esque presentation, they use a lot of footage from interviews, the use of the shaky camera, and even some security camera footage. It's that feeling of realism that sells the world and makes it feel like its a documentary and not another glitzy Hollywood production.

The action is amazingly fast-paced, there's humans shooting all over the place, and the way the special effects look. In many movies that use a lot of special effects they don't really look real and your sort of just looking at the camera and saying, "oh this is a nice science fiction film". However these aliens actually look like they could walk the Earth. They look all the very real, and add that in with a whole bunch of action you got a whole bunch of people sitting on the edge of your seat.

The most powerful aspect of the film is witnessing all the horrible treatment of refugees. It's interesting how the aliens are set up, because you have many conflicting feelings for them. On one hand your scared of them cause their just so darn ugly, but on the other hand you feel compassion for them because their treated like junk. This is a wonderful example of how special effects can work as the hand-maiden to story telling.

The film has that documentary feel to it and it works well for awhile, but then by the third act it actually starts to abandon it and create a very standardized shoot-out scene. I feel like they could've done a better job with how the ending was handled, but it still did feel right by the end. Much of the dialouge is actually pretty cheesy and uses a lot of the same lines that I have heard over and over again.

Sharlto Copley who plays the main character does a good job at playing the sort of anti-hero. He's never acted before but he seems like he has acted all the time. At some points you love him and then at some points you really just want to kill him yourself.

This film is very dark that and it brought up a huge social statement. It touches subject on immigration, the handling of refugees, and so many other subjects are brought up and what is done to these aliens you just feel so emotionally wrenched to.

Consensus: District 9 has some very obvious plot holes, but is brings up many good points, and will leave you emotionally distraught with enough action to keep you on your seat amazed at how real it looks.

9.5/10=Full Priceee!!!

District 9 is easily the greatest movie of the summer and probably one of the best movies of 2009.  It is the perfect summer movie because of the action and is helped even further by the extremely original concept it is built around.  The movie packs a punch as it delivers strong messages about apartheid and the prejudice and hatred that can result from a lack of communication while masking the tone using the sci-fi genre.
Most of the movie feels like a documentary, with the sometimes shaky and imperfect camera work and the feeling that almost all of the footage is candid (a great deal of the conversation was even improvised).  The background is briefly as follows.  Approximately 30 years ago, a giant space ship arrives mysteriously in South Africa and hovers motionless over the city of Johannesburg for months.  When the people of Earth finally decide to investigate and send a team to cut its way in, they discover a colony of helpless, starving, and miserable aliens.  A refugee camp is hastily set up for the aliens right by the city, and the world begins cautiously to mingle with them.  Over the years, this camp turns into a slum as the population of aliens (which people begin to refer to as prawns in a derogatory fashion) grows and space/supplies begins running out.  As tensions rise and riots between the species become more frequent, the world turns to a privatized company known as Multi-National United (MNU) to move the aliens further away from humanity.  Thus, District 9 is born.
The film revolves around a MNU employee named Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) who has recently received a promotion.  While overseeing an operation to relocate the prawns to a new camp (part of a routine and secretive sweep for weapons and technology), Wikus is infected by a strange alien fluid that begins to mutate his DNA and turn him into a strange creature.  When the weapon-hungry MNU discovers this, Wikus becomes one of the most wanted scientific artifacts in the world and is forced to abandon the world he knows and loves to make refuge in the one place no one would look for him: District 9.  His new state forces him to become more open-minded towards the aliens and he begins to see for himself the cruel living conditions the prawns are forced to cope with.
The main storyline of the film is pretty solid and flows nicely, but it is really the background that interested me the most.  I love how the film takes real issues and puts them into the sci-fi genre for our entertainment.  The MNU employees in the film strike many similarities to the South African government during the apartheid years, which is why it's even more ironic that the whole movie is set in South Africa.  The way the MNU officials treat the aliens and force them to sign documents to make the mistreatment seem legal is also a huge pointer to when the original European imperialist settlers began carving up African territories in the 1800s.  I even thought that the movie had many points that Americans can relate to with illegal immigration.  The whole movie seemed to graphically visualize the errors of humanity in the past and even forecast that we are quite capable of making them again.
District 9 is a powerful movie in many respects.  From the subtle levels of hidden messages to the explicit violence and brutality that is shoved in our faces, the movie captures the emotions of paranoia and fear that we experience when exposed to new ideas and delivers them to us in a fresh format.  It has been a long time since I saw such an incredible film in theaters.  District 9 is an experience I will not forget.

I don't know if I'd go that far, but it was certainly one of the best :)
