I didn't like this movie much. Many people might have enjoyed it, but my friend and I nearly stopped the movie halfway. This was the second movie I had just watched on my plane ride home from France, and it failed to interest me. Why? Prepare to read Irish Monkey's incoherent banter. Well, for starters, the acting was terrible. Jesse Aarons (Josh Hutcherson) looked like he was drooling all over himself half the time (probably because he has a major crush on his teacher.) Little to no emotion. Leslie (AnnaSophia Robb) on the other hand, was over emotional. Her mouth kind of went all over the place. And, when they were swinging on a rope, she liked she finally discovered one plus one equals two. Another big irk is that this movie has little to do with Terabithia. Out of the 1:38 minutes in this movie, 20 minutes have actual Terabithians in them. But, for the actual story now. Jesse Aarons is a the only boy in a family seven, including himself. His dad, Jesse Aarons Senior (Robert Patrick), is a farmer, and can't afford to buy a whole lot of stuff for Jesse. This is one of the probable causes of Jesse's constant sadness. He only wears hand-me-downs, and gets picked by bullies and classmates at his school. Then, his life takes an unexpected turn, when he means Leslie Burke. Leslie is what I like to call a "very special person". While it is quite clear she does do drugs, and that her character was intended to be this way, she still seems like she was dropped on her head a few times as a baby. She teaches Jesse to think outside the place, and how to imagine, and to wish the world away. Eventually they lead to creating Terabithia. Throughout the movie, the two bond, and become the best of friends. Tragically something tragic happens. Sorry, no spoilers, and this is as far as I go. So, in short, movie was not very enjoyable. If you want your kids to be quite for and hour and a half, then this might be a good choice. But if you're a bit older and looking for a good movie, keep and looking. Monkey out.
