Now the movie wasn't based on the actual reality this was actually based on a comic book the movie itself was. As legend does go and I am a huge fan of the Spartans legends go exactly like this. Just as the movie the oracle rejected the fact of going to war. So the king takes his troops to a mountain pass where they are expected to land there has been some arguements rather there was 700 Thesbians or even Phoecians. I beleive there was 500 or 700 troops there but as I have researched the Spartans refused to let them fight with them and posted them in the goat path used to finish the Spartans off. The Spartans held off for 2-3 days before finally getting killed the mountain pass itself was used simply cause of the numbers 300 vs 150,000-300,000 historically speaking. The movie makes it appear to be over 1 million just to make the odds seem greater and more powerful. As for the narrator knowing the end story is during the ancient days they would have judges close to the field and watching the battle so at the end of the day they would judge who won and who lost. Nudity in todays society is almost if not demanded in any R rated film nowadays. It disgusts me that that is the case but that is the simple truth. Now to the movie the council would have given in to sending troops eventually but not before the Persian army was right at the door of the city had they not exposed the traitor the army wouldn't be sent until much later. Now as for the monsters we do have to realize this was based of comic books not the actual historical view, and also the actual war was won by the Greeks however that battle or series of battles was eventually a loss to the Greeks but the war a success. Therefore for this action packed movie and great graphics added I have to give it a perfect 10.

i enjoyed the killing and death. But i enjoy it when my movies are real. At the end of the movie they all die. How the actual story goes is they won the war. not died. plus we don't have mythical creatures in those times. They made it out that they faced a million. But they face a thousand.

This movie made me barf. in the real story their was 1,000 Spartans. Not 300. Plus they took on in the movie at least a million. But they really took on 100,000 soldiers. At the end they all died. But in the real story they all win. The hole mythical creatures makes no senses. We don't have them to day or back then. They took a wonderful story and ruined it. If i ever have to see that movie again it will be to soon. So when a movie sucks, i enjoy the make fun of.

Yes, but this movie was based off of a comic. Still as bad as the movie may be historically, the gore was cool.

Amazing movie. I agree with Tusserte on some things, mythical creatures were really inaccurate, yet cool. There is some nudity so be warned. For mostly a green-screened movie this was amazing!!! (awesome-great-good-bad) Graphics-great Story-good Gore(If your a big gore fan)-awesome. So, final, would recommend this to people who love gore, action, spears and stuff, some violent history, would NOT recommend this to children, people who hate gore(and spears and stuff), people who cant, or aren't good at, keeping up with a fast paced film. Overall, great/amazing movie.

Aside from a few minor problems, this movie was surprisingly good! It was beautifully done, and had a very dramatic effect. The lighting was always very intriguing and the music was very appropriate... most of the time! During the crazy battle scenes when heads were flying around there was loud hard rock playing in the background while transitioning between slowed-down shots (there were a ton of these!), as well as sped-up ones that would usually follow. Obviously... that will definitely hurt the popularity of the film as it ages. That said, I guess you will have a hard time paying attention to the background music while all that blood is spurting everywhere. Yes, quite a few heads roll during the course of the movie (some of them during close-ups too!). In fact, so many heads were cleanly sheared off that it seemed historically inaccurate (there's no way a European weapon could've been sharp enough to cut so perfectly during that time period). Although the movie was supposed to be about the famous Battle of Thermopylae, it got to the point where it seemed like the Spartans were fighting orcs and other mythical beasts, not Persians or any servant of their empire. So, aside from those historical inaccuracies (and a few other mistakes/problems), this movie was alright. Gerard Butler plays King Leonidas, the king of the military Spartan city-state. We learn about his life, his passions, and his desire to achieve true glory and fame as a strong king. When he is challenged by a messenger of the Persian King Xerxes I (Rodrigo Santoro) that wants him to submit to the Persian Empire. Not only does Leonidas turn down the 'generous' offer, but he murders the messenger and his guards! Persia sees this as an act of war and begins to assemble a massive army. When he is forbidden by the corrupt oracles and wise men, Leonidas assembles three hundred of his finest Spartan warriors and takes a 'vacation' to the pass of Thermopylae, where his men will be able to easily defend from the hordes of Persians. The battles that will follow will bring honor and respect to both Leonidas and all of Greece, where a few will stand up to many for what they believe in. Leonidas' Queen (Lena Headey) will also have to defend Sparta from her more subtle enemy: corrupted politics and traitors (including Dominic West). The story is narrated by David Wenham, who also plays one of the three hundred Spartans. The film is very well done &emdash; for the most part &emdash; and has both sex and violence (it's a guy thing). Basically, it's a great experience and would absolutely be worth two hours of your time. See it now!

Ok, first off, many of you will disagree with this rating and say that this movie deserves a higher rating. Maybe you're right, but I'll tell you why it got a 7. Alright, so 300 is about 300 Spartan warriors that defended a gap against an army of 1 million Persians. So we start off with the king of Sparta, King Leonidas (Gerard Butler). He begins his life the traditional Spartan way: going out to live in the wilderness with nothing extra for a whole year. Yeah, the first part of the movie serves little point. So, the King is training with his son when a Persian messenger comes. The messenger acts all high and mighty, and demands the King give up some of his land to the Persian Empire. The messenger, like every other messenger in the movie, lasts no longer than 10 minutes against the Spartans. So the King decides to go to war, but before he can, he needs to consult the interpreters of the Oracle, to make sure he is allowed to go to war (or at least that was my understanding of it.) This is where to movie starts to lose points. First off, this part was important as to why there were only 300 men. Anyway, there's a scene of a pretty young woman dancing her Oracle dance to commune with the gods. While she starts to dance, part of her chest is exposed. Completely unnecessary for a movie where the people just wanted to action. The interpretors end up saying that he doesn't have their blessing. The King is trouble and consults with his wife. This is where the movie loses some more points. She says, 'No one should change the mood of my husband but me.' Then, they have a needless sex scene, where they demonstrate something like 5 different sexual positions. Plainly, that struck me as dumb, pointless, and, well, dumb. So the King takes a battalion "for a walk", which technically isn't against the Oracle's words. Before I continue on about the King, let's go back to the wife. She plays the role of trying to convince the council to send more troops. She wastes 30 minutes, exposes a traitor, and accomplishes relatively nothing. I mean, sure, she exposed the guy, and helped the council decide to send more men, but it would have happened anyway! Alright, back to Mister King. Let me just tell you that the action was naturally epic, if completely unrealistic. But we don't watch movies for reality. The action was intense, and very cool, and well planned. Alright, two more complaints. These two Spartans kill a group of Persians, and they're all smiles. Suddenly, this white horse comes out and the rider beheads one of them. And then, the horse and rider disappear. Unless I lost my sight, the guy on the white horse beheaded the Spartan, and then disappeared. Finally, the narrarator was 1 of the 300 Spartans that was sent back to tell the people about what happened. But he was sent back before the final battle. So how did he narrarate the last battle? The world may never know. In conclusion, great action, but with many holes in the story.
