When I walked into the theatre, I wasn't expecting much. I didn't even really know what it was about, a friend just called and invited me to go. Wow, was I surprised. Since I haven't seen the original 60's version(s), I cannot compare the films; however, this one was great. It follows Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin), a bumbling fool of a police officer. Steve Martin acted hilariously in this movie, and when need be, he was serious (though that wasn't very often). When a soccer coach is killed on the field and the Pink Panther diamond is stolen off of his hand, Chief Inspector of France Dreyfus (Kevin Kline) looks for a fool to put on the case. This way, after the fool makes his mistakes, Dreyfus can claim the case himself and win the Medal of Honor. This fools turns out to be Clouseau, who receives the help of driver Gilbert Ponton (Jean Reno). He also acted well, in my opinion. Anyways, Clouseau comes to some hilarious conclusions while on the job, such as rounding all the people in France with the last name You. There was a ton of slapstick humor as well, which in some cases can be too extreme; however, Steve Martin played it off great, and it was perfectly acceptable in this film. I'd say if you can make it to the theater, this is the movie you should see now.
