Here's an example of potential optimization. Almost everything in this film was spectacular. Every actor, no matter how small the part, contributed to the overall mood, which really helped this movie out. Every opportunity for humor or character development was fully taken advantage of. My only complaints lie in the plot and use of the f-bomb (there was too much of it in my opinion). The action moves quickly and can jump around on the timeline, which is why I could be slightly confused from time to time. Even so, I feel that all the aspects of the film added up to an awesome experience. Seriously, my heart was pounding constantly after the first half hour or so. I really like how the main characters are perfect foils of each other, and are constantly outsmarting and working against each other to build up tension. Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) is a promising young police detective on the rise to being someone big. Little do his co-workers and employers (including Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen, and Mark Wahlberg) know that he is a mole for the mobster Frank Costello (a very creepy psychopath played by Jack Nicholson). Costello has been a virtual father to Sullivan, protecting him and teaching him everything he knows. Their relationship could almost be compared to a father and son, although a normal father wouldn't kill his son for screwing up. Anyways, the police are now trying to capture Costello after building evidence up against him, and Sullivan owes it to Costello to prevent them from doing so. This is where Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) comes in. Being brought up in a divided household, Bill has learned to hone multiple personalities to blend in with his surroundings. This is why he is the perfect choice to become a mole in Costello's operations. Unfortunately, being Costello's right hand man means becoming a heartless, cruel killer, and Bill might not be up to the job. He wasn't a bad person before, but what will he become? Once you've begun a job like that, you're committed, and things don't look good for poor Bill (especially with Sullivan constantly trying to undo his work). To end the standoff, one of these two rivals (who've never even met) will need to outsmart the other and take the glory. What's sad is that both are good people (one is just corrupted), and only one can win. As you can see, the competition is very fierce, and this movie can get quite intense with all the backstabbing, deceit, and sex (yes, sex!) I would definitely recommend buying this movie because you're going to want to watch it again!
