I have to say I enjoyed this film. It wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be, and Irish Monkey didn't have his head stuck in the couch the whole time. That obviously means this was a bit of a letdown. Now, although it might've been lacking in jump-out-of-your-seat moments, there were many creepy qualities and a surprisingly interesting plot. It begins with Rose Da Silva (Radha Mitchell) bringing her adopted daughter, Sharon (Jodelle Ferland), on a visit to the town of Silent Hill. Sharon cries about the town in her sleep, and subconsciously seems to want to visit it. Rose's husband, Christopher (Sean Bean), doesn't like the whole idea, and neither do most people that Rose meets along the way. You see, many years ago, the town called Silent Hill burned down in a horrible fire, and the coal mines below are still burning to this day. Although the town was only closed to protect people from the toxic fumes, Rose finds that there are more reasons just below the surface. Upon entering Silent Hill, her car crashes and she falls unconscious. When she wakes up, Sharon is gone, and the bridge to the entrance Silent Hill has disappeared, leaving a huge void in its place. Now, in this hellish alternate dimension, Rose must find her daughter, or be destroyed by the demons in the darkness. As I already said, the movie just begins without telling you anything, and you learn about what's going on as the movie progresses. This makes it very intriguing, especially because all the loose ends tie themselves off. Rent this film if you have a few hours to kill, but expect a ton of gore and swearing.
