I guess this movie was entertaining. All historical inaccuracies in the movie aside (and yes, there were quite a few; mostly regarding the planes and their ridiculous maneuvering ability), this movie wasn't that bad. There was nothing special about the acting, and the plot was fairly predictable and almost boring. So, yeah, the fake air combat was what kept this film alive. James Franco plays Blaine Rawlings, an ambitious young man trying to escape debt in America by going to fight in World War I. He flees the U.S. (which hadn't entered the war yet) to join the French Lafayette Escadrille. There, he meets men of all background and races (all with personal struggles of their own) and the love of his life (Jennifer Decker). Jean Reno plays French Captain Thenault, but I thought his performance really didn't show off his acting skill at all. As I said before, the combat is the most exciting and interesting part of this movie. My complaint about these (besides the fact that they were historically impossible) is that there are too many scenes of the pilots in their cockpits, and it's hard to tell who's who because of their big flight goggles. So, all in all, this movie might be worth a rent if you're bored, but if you're a history buff (or actually care about watching only good movies), might as well pass this one.
