8/10. I disagree almost completely with Tusserte on his views on the movie. Of course, as most people know, it is based on the wonderful book by C.S. Lewis. It follows four children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, as they flee London for the safer countryside during the German bombings of World War II. When playing a game of hide-and-seek, Lucy stumbles upon a magical land located in a wardrobe, and soon, the other children discover it as well. The land is under control of an evil witch, the White Witch, who keeps Narnia in an ever-lasting winter. However, the children are informed of a prophecy that says two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve will end the witch's reign and restore Narnia to its glory. Although first skeptical of it, when the prophecy begins to occur, the children know that they must help the people of Narnia. The tale itself is magical, as it involves so many animals that children will enjoy. There is a bit of a dark side when Edmund is tricked by the witch, but Aslan the lion, the leader of the free people, helps to turn him good again. The White Witch is spooky, and Tilda Swinton does a good job playing her. The battle scene at the end of the movie is executed well, and although is a bit fake, is a good bit of action. Some parts made my littler cousins around me cry, which is to be expected for anyone familiar with the book. One part I did agree on was that the children were not particularly good actors. Other than that, it did not deserve a PG13 rating, so children and even adults will enjoy this movie. Go see it before you have to wait for the DVD.
