This movie is... okay... The only good part of the movie was the ending, because it took that long for everything to finally make sense. You know how in the beginning of movie (pick a movie, any movie), there is all this stuff happening that doesn't make sense because, unknown to the viewer, there is a flashback coming up? Well, in Serenity, most of the movie is like that. I think that maybe the movie would be more interesting to someone whose seen the 2002 TV series, Firefly. It has the same actors and stuff, pretty much. I haven't actually seen the series, but I'm sure it would definitely help. A lot of the movie still doesn't make sense, so bear with me as I try to describe the plot. The story is based in the distant future, when man has colonized many planets. The Alliance is a universal treaty between different planets to ensure peace. However, some people do not believe in The Alliance. This story is based on one particular group of rebels. They are the crew of The Serenity, a pirate vessel (or something like that). A doctor, Simon (Sean Maher), rescues his psychic sister, River (Summer Glau), after she is kidnapped by The Alliance. She was kidnapped to be trained as a deadly soldier (I think) and ended up learning all about one of the biggest secrets that The Alliance is hiding. Simon joins the crew of The Serenity to try to hide River from the eyes of The Alliance. A major part of the plot is finding out what 'Miranda' is, which ends up having to do with the secret. One little thing I don't understand, though: why does The Operative (Chiwetel Ejiofor) become a nice guy after he is defeated? I thought he was supposed to be cruel and tough... oh well. Rent this movie, unless you've seen Firefly. If you have seen Firefly, then try it out and comment about your experience in the Forum. I might edit my review because of you!
