This movie wasn't very good, mainly because the dialogue was badly phrased and kind of hard to understand (those darn accents!). The battle scenes up until the end were also kind of hard to see; the camera moved too fast and was too close. The characters in this movie were also not very interesting, mainly because they were killed off or left the plot too quickly for anyone to care. The setting for this movie is during the 12th century Crusades, when the Christians tried to take over the "Kingdom of Heaven", Jerusalem (which was controlled by the Muslims). The story begins as Balian (Orlando Bloom), a young blacksmith who has lost his wife and child, joins a group of knights who are travelling to Jerusalem to repent for their sins, believing that he can make up for his wife's suicide and his own sins. He finds out that the leader of the group of knights, Godfrey (Liam Neeson), is his father, who committed adultery and left the mother (who died later). When Godfrey is killed in a fight (much too quickly in my opinion), Balian has to take over his position as a noble. I'm not too sure if this movie is historically accurate (Zebrati's the history buff), but the tactics were cool, and I enjoyed seeing the fights at the end (the overall ending is how the Crusades actually were). This movie is not for kids, because there is a lot of brutal violence and an implied sex scene. Rent this movie, if you even want to see it.
