Jarhead is a spectacular movie; both touching and emotional. Set during the first Gulf War, Jarhead shows us what the soldiers of Desert Storm had to go through. That doesn't mean violence, in fact, it means just the opposite. The main enemy the soldiers fought waiting in the Persian Gulf was boredom. During this time, many of the men break down from depression and the fact that their girlfriends/wives are cheating on them. Others, like Corporal Alan Troy (Peter Sarsgaard), break down because they aren't allowed to fight. In other words, the times were rough on the soldiers, and Jarhead shows their struggles. Revolving around, and narrated by, Lance Corporal Anthony Swofford, this movie shows that during these hard times, men are able to bond and become brothers. Other important characters are played by Lucas Black, Jamie Foxx, Brian Geraghty, and Jacob Vargas. Just so you know, I haven't read the book this is based on, so I don't know how accurate it is. This movie isn't violent at all, but it's very sad and inappropriate. In other words, expect way too much swearing, extreme sex scenes, and more. I liked this movie, and I would suggest renting it. Welcome to the suck.
