The movie is about Opal (Anna Sophia Robb), a ten year girl who's father is a traveling preacher (Jeff Daniels). Her mother left her when she was young so she's lonely with her father studying most of the time. And since they keep moving she never has any friends.
They moved to a small town in Florida town (where the movie takes place). One day Opal's father sent her to the store for their dinner. The store, Winn Dixie, where she finds a dog trashing the store with the employees hot on his tail. The owner wants to send the dog to the pound but Opal decides to take the dog home. Her father doesn't like the dog but agrees to keep him until they can find his owner. But no one owns him, and because of the dog, Opal finds new friends.
It's really a great and funny movie, almost word-to-word with the book. I recommend this to anyone who likes a classic family movie!
