This movie was funny mostly because of Will Ferrell. The elf-raised human, Buddy, (played by Will Ferrell) gets into funny situations when he comes to New York to meet his real father. Most of the laughs in this film revolve around doing things that normal people know to be careful of. For example, Buddy eats gum off the sidewalks and gets hit by taxicabs for crossing at red lights. This kind of anti-street-smarts is what makes everyone laugh and love this film. If you look at the actual plot, however, you won't see the good part of the film. In fact, it's kind of generic. However, most people don't notice that anyways. This is a film that seems like it's just for kids, but it's actually for everyone (you'd be surprised how true that is).
