So, we see a huge improvement from the previous, 1939 version. Now, although the movie is better, it that doesn't make it very good. Also, you will notice that this movie is very, very different from the previous version. There are many more instances of dumb luck and plot holes in this one, and at the same time, it is more interesting. In any case, I didn't really like this either. Heath Ledger plays Harry Faversham, a young British soldier in the late 1890s. Upon becoming engaged to the love of his life, Ethne (Kate Hudson), Harry learns that he is being sent off to in Africa. Worried that this will affect his life, Harry resigns from his officer rank and stays at home. His military friends, Castleton, Jack Durrance, and Willoughby don't think this decision was very brave of him, and they send him white feathers, the sign of cowardice. Embarassed and betrayed, Harry gets a change of heart, and goes out on his own to rejoin with his men. When the British are attacked by rebels and many are killed and captured, the heroic Harry seems to be their only hope of ever seeing home again! Will Harry get there in time to save the day and prove himself? Also, there's an addition of a new character, the friendly native Abou Fatma (Djimon Hounsou). I appreciated his performance, it was necessary for the plot changes since the 1939 version.I would suggest renting this film; it's okay, and worth your time.
