When i graduate this year i want to join the Army Rangers. In real life the Rangers & Delta Force only suffered 18 causalities. The movie made it look like more people died. Even though they didn't catch the Warlord they still accomplished to save their fallen comrades. This film proves that Rangers kick butt even in the most desperate battles. People always say that Marines are the best. They haven't seen Rangers, SEAL, etc in action. I aslo the way the Rangers were motivated and calling themselves elite. Rangers also said that Delta Force men  are undisciplined. That was some good friendly competition.

The Saving Private Ryan of the African war genre.

Scott's obsession for detail is shown throughout the whole movie as he doesn't leave out a single detail when showing this African and these soldiers roaming through it. About 19 soldiers died that day and Scott almost shows each one in his death.

The war scenes are some of the most realistic and riveting war scenes ever filmed. Scott does a great job at not getting us confused of the action and graphing out every scene with a fast but easy to follow pace so we don't get confused. The visuals is what makes this movie look as if its real life. The difference between this film and Saving Private Ryan is that is Saving Private Ryan is depicts war at its lowest and most gruesome. Though it never depicts warfare in its modernity, as this film does with all its other urban complexities, that this film succeeds in depicting.

The huge problem with this film was the lack of character development and this is its main fault with the film. The thing with other war films is that the soldiers are explained in all their characteristics and we can connect to them easier. However, in this film none of the characters are really shown in detail other than we just know their names. This film was more about the situation these soldiers were in but it would have been nice if we knew who these soldiers actually were.

The acting is mediocre at its highest. I say this because there aren't a lot of scenes for the actors to show off their skills and more of the movie was centered towards the actual battle itself. With more character development this ensemble cast could've shown their acting chops and made this film more effective.

The war scenes are very realistic and riveting and are shown at such a pace so you don't get confused. The lack of character development is what in all killed this movie in the end but was saved by the war scenes themselves.

War is brutal! This movie is a great example of how both sides suffer losses. The violence is intense and brutal, and definitely isn't for kids. In this movie, a Somali warlord, General Aidid, has been stealing all the U.N. (United Nations) rations for the starving masses of Somalis. Hunger is the weapon that keeps his victims in line. U.S. Delta soldiers and Rangers under Sgt. Matt Eversmann (Josh Hartnett) have been sent to intervene with this genocide. But as Cpt. Mike Steele (Jason Isaacs) points out, not even the Delta soldiers and Rangers are able to get along! However, cooperation is thrusted upon these men in the city of Mogadishu as a quick sting operation turns ugly. That is, two Blackhawk helicopters are shot down and the pilots need rescuing. Ewan McGregor plays the comic relief, Spec. John Grimes, a cook who complains about not being able to fight until he is forced in as a substitute. By about the third time he dodges random RPGs [Rocket Propelled Grenades], he realizes that war isn't exactly as much fun as he thought it would be. Orlando Bloom (yes, the Orlando Bloom) also makes an appearance as the young Pfc. Todd Blackburn, but he falls out of a helicopter and is evacuated almost immediately. Sorry for ruining it for you. There are also appearances by Tom Sizemore and Eric Bana, who both become heroes before the violent day is over. During war, all men make an incredible discovery, as Sfc. Norm 'Hoot' Gibson (Eric Bana) points out: the reason for fighting isn't about killing or winning the war, it's only about getting your friends out alive. Leave no man behind!
