When it comes to movie adaptations, I always want them to stay true to the source or just don't do the movie at all if that's the case. There were so many things that was wrong in this movie. For one, Koopa (known as Bowser in the games) was human in the whole entire movie. I mean, what is up with that? And we only get few seconds of his dinosaur form at the end? Disappointing. Two, to be honest John Leguizamo (Luigi) wasn't all that good in this movie. Don't get me wrong, he's a great actor, he just doesn't seem right as Luigi. And three, I hate the way Toad and the Goombas were portrayed in this movie. What the heck? With the small heads, and huge bodies, that was stupid. And Toad didn't get much screentime. Jeez! And also, Dennis Hopper wasn't all that great in this movie either. Well he's a great actor, it's just the material they gave him in the movie was ridiculous. "Where's my pizza?" WTF? Yeah, I didn't know that this movie was trying to compete with the old Ninja Turtles movies back then. And Koopa being a germophobe(sp?)? Wow.....just wow.
Now that I am done ranting about the movie, let's talk about the good things in it. Yeah, there were good things in this movie too. I like the plot of the movie. It made more sense that dinosaurs evolved like us in a another dimension world then a plumber coming out of a pipe out of nowhere to save a princess who he hardly knew. I like Bob Hoskins portrayal as Mario, and Samantha Mathis as Daisy. In my opinion, they were the ones who hold up this movie. Without them, this movie would completely suck. And I also like Yoshi too, he was (dare I say it) cute.
All in all, big disappointment to Super Mario fans (or any big video game fans in general), but fun to watch for movie fans who just like classics such like this one. Go watch it, though I won't guarantee you that you will like it or not.
