Although it was based on a Tom Clancy novel (therefore implying quality), this movie was pretty confusing. Because it was a Tom Clancy book, it was very political and fast-paced as well, which kinda added to the confusion. I would recommend reading the book first, so you won't be as perplexed as I was ('who was he again?'). Anyways, Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) is a past CIA case analyst who, now with a wife, [Dr.] Cathy (Anne Archer), and daughter, Sally (Thora Birch) is employed as a teacher for navy trainees. While touring in London with his family (I'm not sure if he's on vacation or not, but that doesn't matter), Jack sees a group of terrorists attack a British government official's car and tries to stop them. While foiling the attack, Jack shoots and kills one of the terrorists, who happens to be the younger brother of the terrorist, Sean Miller (Sean Bean). After Miller is put into custody, his friends break him out, and the first thing on Miller's mind is revenge for his brother. So, naturally, Jack and his family are constantly terrorized by these men (and women) throughout the movie, which is interesting, but also a little generic. Um, so, why this is not generic... there are so many sex scenes and so much swearing that it almost ruins the experience! As you can see, this film is definitely not for children, and should be kept away from them at all costs. By the way, Samuel Jackson makes an appearance in this film as the Lieutenant Commander Robby Jackson, and is a highlight in this movie, although not that important to the plot. Rent this film, if you want to see it at all.
