The word "crazy" about sums this movie up. The ideas shown here and the logic behind the action is so far-fetched that you just forget about trying to accept it and go along with it. With that in mind, you'll have a great time watching this family movie. Ted 'Theodore' Logan (Keanu Reeves) and Bill S. Preston, Esquire (Alex Winter), are two young knuckleheads who are about to flunk high school if they don't get an 'A+' on their next history presentation. Knowing they're doomed, the pair study like madmen to try to save their grades. The situation worsens as Ted's father (Hal Landon Jr.) threatens to send Ted to an Alaskan military school if he flunks, which will be the end of Bill and Ted's rock band, the Wyld Stallyns (not that they can actually play). Fortunately, a futuristic society (from the future, of course), is keeping close watch on Bill and Ted, acting as guardian angels. One agent, Rufus (George Carlin) is sent to bring help. To save the day, Rufus brings a time travel machine disguised as a telephone booth where you dial numbers to go to specific times. The idea is to visit the specific time periods to experience the events/people, but after the French general Napoleon (Terry Camilleri) is accidentally sucked into their time warp, Bill and Ted hatch a much better plan. I found this movie 'most excellent' and couldn't stop laughing. It definitely helps if you know your way around history, or you won't get some of the puns/antics (like pronouncing Socrates 'so-crates,' and so on). Although this movie is mostly a family movie, there are some perverted/adult jokes that, hopefully, kids won't understand (like the number '69,' for example). Definitely, this movie should first be rented, unless you're into silly, and occasionally stoner-oriented, humor and antics. Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes!
