This movie was both amusing and kind of poignant at the same time. I really felt for the characters through the development of their personalities. At some parts I laughed for them, at others I felt really sad. Now, it does have a feel of the 60's, like an old TV show that belongs on MeTV. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it has to do with the scenery and dressing style? It just seemed a little old. That doesn't at all affect my rating, though, I still loved this film. Eddie (Ron Howard) is the young son of Tom Corbett (Glenn Ford), a widower who recently lost his wife. This film shows the hard times Eddie and his father must experience while transitioning, times that will bring father and son closer together than ever before. Tired of his lonely father's depression, Eddie decides it's time to get himself a stepmother, and goes out on a campaign to find his father a fitting wife. His father obviously has different standards, and while Eddie prefers the young blond (Shirley Jones) across the hall in their apartment building, his father is already falling in love with a very liberal brunette (Dina Merrill). Also involved is the timid redhead Dollye Daly (Stella Stevens). See how everything works out, it's very amusing. Ron Howard was an amazing child actor! This movie is very family-oriented and a wise rent. Watch it for yourself!
