If you remember the launch hype for Halo 3, it was a big deal, and many people felt let down.
I admit I was skeptical when the same type of hype started up around Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, so I drove out with a friend a week after it came out. As soon as we booted it up, my fears started to go away with the nicely designed menus, masses of options and gun customization. Finally, after we were set, my friend and I started playing multiplayer. Everything about this game is polished, from the graphics to the controls, and it soon became evident that the hype was at least not too far off from the facts. Infinity Ward managed to change enough to make MW:2 a new experience, but keep all of the original appeal.
While multiplayer has always seemed to me to be the highlight of a CoD experience, we tried out Spec Ops and Single Player anyway. Single player was a very cinematic experience, for lack of a better word. It had enough freedom that the levels weren't completely linear, but also offered some obviously scripted moments.
Spec Ops, a new mode, gives you an objective that you have to accomplish with a catch. For example, you must eliminate a number of enemy troops, but they have helicopters, Predators and tanks, or you may be tasked with killing militia but not civilians.
If you have enough money for a new game this Christmas, be sure to put this on your list.
