Animal crossing is a game. A game where you do everyday activities. Activities that are normally seen as boring and mundane. So why is it that the Animal Crossing series has gained such popularity? Why do we enjoy doing these tasks in the game when we wouldn't do it in real life? The answer is simple: This is a game, things are so much similar and there are unlimited possibilities.
In the game we do not feel any of the pressures, pains or any real emotion, unlike in real life. Take fishing for example: in real life, you sometimes have to wait hours in the one spot, sometime not ever getting a bite. If you do however, very often you have to end up throwing the fish back because of its small size anyway. In Animal Crossing, things are different. Generally you can find a fish swimming around in a few seconds of walking around the river and mostly, you’ll be able to catch it, later selling it. The outcome is that you do not spend hours on catching the fish, and can use it to get money or enter competitions.
Before I continue, I am reviewing this game as if I have never played any previous games in the series. If you have got the ds version, it is probably not worth the money, as there is little added.
The game’s bright colors and simple tasks have a child like charm that will delight all. There is always a great feeling of satisfaction when you get to upgrade to a bigger house or you can finally buy the piece of furniture that you’ve been saving up your bells(currency) for. Even a simple game of hide and seek can be somewhat pleasant. The game allows us to live the carefree childhood that we’ve always dreamed of. If you are the type of person who reminisces about 'the good ‘ol days’ and your youth whe you didn’t have a single worry and enjoyed the simple things such as picking fruit off a tree, getting some firewood, catching bugs or just going to the city for the day, then you’ll probably like this game.
As you probably know, the reason that this game is called city folk is because of the city which you can visit anytime. In the city you can go to furniture shops, hairdressers, get your fortune told, go to the theatre and countless other things. Another feature that this game has that it’s predecessors didn’t have is the wii speak functionality. Basically wii speak is a microphone that sits atop your sensor bar and can pick up most sounds in your room. I actually do not own this peripheral, but from when I have tried it it works pretty well. What is the point of wii speak you ask? Well here comes another feature of the game, which the ds version did have: Internet connection. This is where the game really shines as you can connect with friends and speak to them, visit their village and exchange gifts. This way you can see what type of house your buddy has, try and outdo each other and so on. If you don’t know anyone who has the game and internet connection, however the Animal Crossing experience isn’t as enjoyable.
For those who are not very patient, or want action will probably not find this game very appealing. The tasks can get quite monotonous and if you are not the type to try and collect every little thing that the game has to offer, don’t buy this game.

Animal Crossing: City Folk, also referred to as AC: CF, is a life simulator for the Wii Console. Although many people call it "more of the same thing", I don't for the most part.

Animal Crossing: City Folk includes all the features of that in its previous games, as well as some major improvements. First, you don't have to share a house, as you did in Animal Crossing: Wild World. The houses are also placed around the town, instead of in one central square, like that of the original Animal Crossing title. Next, AC: CF lets you move beyond the limits of your town, into a whole new city! You can talk to people (animals) that are placed around. Finally, AC: CF includes the Wii Speak feature. You can talk to other people over Nintendo Wi-Fi while they are visiting your town.

I'll explain a little about what might happen on your first day in your town. Just as I experienced it.

First, Rover will ask you to set some things up. After you've entered your name and town name you'll meet him on the bus. When you finally arrive at your new town, you'll need to check out the houses that you can choose from. After you come out of each house, Tom Nook, will ask you if your interested in it. If so he'll calculate up the cost of the house for you. It'll be around 17,000 bells. A price he know you can't afford. So he puts you to part time work in his shop, to help pay off your debt. Once you finish your jobs, he'll tell you how many bells you have remaining in your debt. From then on you're free to go to the city, make money to buy stuff and pay off your debt. After which you can opt to get an even bigger house. From then on, the possibility are endless.

Animal Crossing is an extremely complex game. There are just too many little features hidden in to review and you can never really "beat" the game. Which is the whole point of Animal Crossing. Cause ya know, you never "beat" life. :)
