I, in all my game playing experiences, have never met a game that I had more trouble giving a rating to then this one. Even as I stare at the score, I feel as though I've done something wrong. This game should be a 10, but the only thing preventing me from giving it that score is the part of my mind telling me, this game is amazing, but it's no masterpiece. It's not perfect.
And it isn't. But it's damn close to perfect. It's the sequel to the hit game "God of War"; the winner of many awards and honors only a couple of years back. In God of War II, Kratos returns in all his Spartan style bad-a*s fullness. The gameplay being even bloodier, more violent, and more incredible then the last. With gore, blood, violence, and nudity (Yes, they stepped it up this time around), God of War II not only fits the M rated description perfectly - but it also equals up to an experience that; with the recent release of 300, makes Spartans the most bada*s characters in the world. Kratos might just be the best created, detailed and tragic of heroes in the history of gaming. For a man so evil, you can't help but love him.
One of the last hardcore titles for the PS2, God of War II is easily one of the best last-gen games. This might be exactly the reason why it only gets a 9. Sure this game could visually compare with top 360 titles in some areas, but it could have been all that much better if it was available on the next-gen market. However, that doesn't stop God of War II from being categorized as one of the best games on the PlayStation 2. The violence in this game is off the charts on the awesomeness scale. Just as in the first one, it remains quite enjoyable to pull of the most spectacular of combos. The storyline in God of War II picks up right after God of War ended, and continually stays fast-paced - this game never gets boring. The dark tale of betrayal, love and war makes for a great overall story. In conclusion, God of War II is almost perfect. Nonetheless, a must have for any hardcore PlayStation 2 owner.
