First you start at the cell level, and eventually all the way to conquering the universe. As awesome as that seems, it goes even deeper. At each phase (Cell, Creature, Tribe, Civilization, & Space) you get to actually customize it unlike any other game. There are editors for making things (e.g. creature editor, building editor, spaceship editor). Fortunately they're very easy to use, and yet they still can be used to make very complex and creative creations.
Spore is very user friendly and comfortable by making you feel limitless. Personally, I'd say the creation aspect of the game is right on target, otherwise it needs a bit more gameplay (e.g. creature & space phase). In creature phase there is really not much to do, other than kill and make friends with other creatures. Although, I'd have to admit that phase is still my very favorite because you really do get emotionally attached to your creature. Then, in space, which is frequently called the "sandbox" is actually quite disappointing. They need to add more factors and a better plot.
Once in space, the game seems to be centered around going to the center of the galaxy. However, once you get there the results are quite disappointing. Afterwhich, the storyline actually ends. Luckily though, EA has announced a new expansion pack called Galatic Adventures. Indeed as the name suggests, it will add much more gameplay to space.
Other than Spore's wimpy plot and okay gameplay it definitely makes up for that with it's many many fun editors. Besides that, the graphics are fairly good. Maybe for some though they may get annoyed at the game's somewhat cartoonish look. But even with some minor weaknesses, Spore is simply swell when comes to bringing your imagination to life!
