Super Smash Bros. Melee is an excellent multiplayer game.
Each multiplayer battle is highly customizable, with different rules and items. For example, a game can be preset to 2 minutes, and whoever gets the most kills wins. It could be set to Stock, where each player has a certain amount of lives. Coins is another fun alternative. When you hit other players, coins fly out, and whoever gets the most coins in a set time wins.
There is also a large array of items you can include in your battles. You can choose exactly which items you want to appear in your battles and the frequency that they appear. From a one-hit Baseball Bat to Red Shells, there are plenty of different kinds of items to spice up your games.
The character selection is greatly improved from the first Super Smash Bros. There are a lot of characters to unlock, each with unique abilities. There are quick characters like Falco, Fox, and Captain Falcon, and there are strong characters like Bowser and Ganondorf.
The arena selection is also pretty astounding. There are very small arenas (Fountain of Dreams), large arenas (Hyrule Temple), moving arenas (Pokemon Floats), and even a 2d arena!
All of that is in normal multiplayer battles. However, there are also special battles, such as battles that give you lightning speed, giant mode that makes the users really big (try using giant Bowser in Fountain of Dreams), small mode, invisible mode, and even camera mode, which allows you to take screenshots of battles.
There are also tournaments, in which you can allow up to 64 players to play. That would be one hell of a party.
Aside from multiplayer gaming, this game also includes interesting solo gameplay as well. There are a lot of Events which range in difficulty from easy to extremely difficult.
All in all, this is a great game to buy, because you can play it again and again and still have areas of the game that are unexplored.
