Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the 5th portable installment in the series. Previous installments in the series, have been on the N-Gage, Pocket PC, Mobile and the PSP. So, is the DS version the best portable CoD yet?

COD4 is rated higher on Metacritic than the other portable CoDs. Rated far higher than the N-Gage, Pocket PC and Mobile versions, and slightly higher the PSP version. And it's higher for a reason...

COD4 is different from most DS FPS's, because it's based in real life, as opposed to Metroid Prime: Hunters and Dementium: The Ward, which are very unrealistic. It's a really unique experience for the DS, and I love the War setting, though, of course it's gonna be war because it's Call of Duty...

The graphics on this game are pretty good, actually. Especially considering that it's a fully 3D experience on the DS, which downgrades graphics considerably. Metroid Prime: Hunters set the bar for FPS's on the DS, and Call of Duty 4 gets really, really close to equaling it, if not beating it.

This game is way deeper than just:
'Shoot this. Grenade that. Shoot this. Shoot this. Blow this up.'
There is actually variety in the levels. In most levels, you're in an FPS mode, but in at least one of the levels (I just started), you're looking down from a helicopter, trying to protect your troops from incoming enemies, using machine guns, bombs, and missiles. Which is pretty hard, but it changes it up, so I'm fine with it.

Where the game is absolutely breathtaking, is the Multiplayer. Up to 4 players (single card or multi-card) can play at the same time. Since none of my friends own the game, I'll have to review the Single-card multiplayer. There is absolutely no lag, although the game takes 1 or 2 minutes to download to everybodys DS. You see the players moving in real time, and there's absolutely no delay, which is awesome. There is also a radar in the map, that only 1 person can get at a time, so while we're all shooting eachother, we're also competing for the radar, so several things are going on at once. They really took time in the Multiplayer, and I could play it with friends for hours.

There are a few drawbacks to this game, but nothing too major. They include no online play, the checkpoints are way too far apart, some parts aren't self-explanatory, and in Multiplayer, after every game everybody has to turn off their DS, and you have to start up DS Download Play again, which can get tedious if you play it for long periods of time.

Overall, this game is another great shooter for the DS, showing that graphics aren't everything, especially if you compare it to the competing CoD game on the PSP.

BUY OR NOT TO BUY: If you love shooters, or fun multiplayer, you'll fall in love with CoD4. Buy it.
